What to Expect During and After Microneedling

What to Expect During and After Microneedling

Time takes a toll on your skin, no matter how well you care for it. After all, you’re exposed to dangerous UV rays from the sun, gravity is a constant force, and simply aging depletes your essential collagen and elastin stores.

Dr. Deborah Viglione and her staff at Living Waters Regenerative Medicine Center want you to live a full, active, vibrant life. Part of that includes feeling great about how you look, and if you’re concerned about your skin, your confidence can suffer. We offer Potenza™ RF microneedling because it’s a highly customizable treatment that can address numerous skin issues.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling has been around for some time, but it’s become much more popular in recent years, thanks in part to influencers on social media touting its benefits. We tend to agree — the treatment does offer some amazing results for a number of problems.

Microneedling involves using tiny needles to penetrate your skin at different depths, creating micro-wounds. Your body responds to these tiny wounds just as it would to a larger wound, by activating your natural healing powers. Microneedling stimulates production of collagen, new skin cells, and elastin.

Along with microneedling, the Potenza system adds the power of radiofrequency (RF) energy. Radiofrequency gently heats your skin, further stimulating collagen and elastin production. The result is smoother, tighter, rejuvenated skin.

What can RF microneedling improve?

Microneedling can help address a host of common skin issues, including:

The list is so varied because microneedling kicks off so many different biological processes. For example, new skin cell production can help with dullness, scarring, and skin tone, while collagen production helps with sagging, wrinkles, and fine lines.

An additional benefit of the Potenza system is that we can use it on any skin type and on skin anywhere on your body. We aren’t limited by the time of year, either.

How does microneedling feel during treatment?

One of the most common questions we hear about microneedling is “Doesn’t it hurt?” One of the reasons Dr. Viglione chose the Potenza system is because it causes little discomfort. Most people say microneedling feels at worst like being pinched, but many people say they just feel the tip of the device as it moves across their skin.

The Potenza system uses a fusion tip that allows the needles to penetrate at various depths at the same time, instead of using separate rollers. The heat from the radiofrequency energy is targeted and gentle and doesn’t cause discomfort for most people.

What about after your microneedling treatment?

Immediately following your treatment, your skin may be red. The redness fades quickly, and while you need to avoid exposure to the sun and skip the makeup for a couple of days, you can return to your regular activities.

You should be able to see some difference right away, but as your body produces collagen and new skin cells, you see even more results. At about 4-6 weeks after your treatment, you notice a greater difference, and optimal results are visible about 12 weeks following treatment.

Many people make Potenza RF microneedling a regular part of their beauty routine and come in for treatments a few times per year. It depends on your goals and your skin.

If you’d like to learn more about Potenza microneedling, schedule an appointment today. Dr. Viglione is happy to evaluate your skin, discuss your goals with you, and make recommendations to help you reach them.
