Cosmetic Issues Botox® Can Address

Cosmetic Issues Botox® Can Address

Aging offers many rewards: wisdom, more time with family and friends, and an expanded perspective that allows you to see the world in a different light than you may have seen it in the past. Living a long life truly is a blessing and a gift.

Unfortunately, however, the years can take a toll and show on your face. Even if you feel young inside, changes taking place in your face and body may cause you to look older than you feel — and older than you wish to look.

Here’s some good news: You can embrace the gift of aging without having to accept all of the appearance changes that time carries with it. At Living Waters Regenerative Medicine Center in Gulf Breeze, Florida, primary care physician Deborah D. Viglione, MD, offers patients a range of anti-aging treatments and cosmetic services that help you look and feel your best as you age.

One of the cosmetic services our providers offer is Botox®. Here, we explain some of the issues that Botox Cosmetic can address and tell you more about this popular treatment.

A beneficial toxin

Botox is the name given to a toxin called onobotulinumtoxin A. It’s produced by a type of bacteria (Clostridium botulinum) that, when injected into muscles beneath the skin, causes the area to relax.

The thought of injecting a toxin into your facial muscles may sound upsetting. But Botox is FDA-approved for cosmetic use and safe when applied by a trained professional. Interestingly, Botox is also used to treat certain medical conditions, including headaches, overactive bladder, and some kinds of muscle spasms.

A more youthful face

As you age, a variety of factors impact the appearance of your face and skin. These include exposure to sunlight, environmental chemicals, air pollution, and cigarette smoke.

Imperfections in your skin can also develop as a result of the expressions you make, including frowning, smiling, laughing, squinting, and raising your eyebrows. Over time, these expressions can cause lines and wrinkles to form on your face. This is where Botox shines. Some of the cosmetic issues it can address include:

Botox treatment allows tight muscles in your face to relax. As a result, lines smooth away.

What to expect

Botox treatment is a safe, effective in-office procedure. Results from Botox treatment last for up to 4 months.

Dr. Viglione also offers a similar treatment known as Jeuveau®, which is a purified form of botulinum toxin that she may recommend for people who’ve developed antibodies that prevent Botox from working.
