Botox or Dermal Fillers? Which is the Right Choice For You?

Botox® and fillers are the two most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatments in the United States. Why you may ask? Because they’re both fast and convenient ways to help your battle against the visible signs of aging.

Though Botox and dermal fillers smooth out lines and creases, they address different types of wrinkles. This may have you asking: Which is right for me?

At Living Waters Med Spa & Wellness Center, our board-certified anti-aging physician, Deborah Viglione, MD, is a master at Botox and filler injections. Using her artistic eye and aesthetic skills, she carefully administers these cosmetic injections to get a naturally youthful look.

We want to provide you with a guide to Botox and fillers that might help you decide which one makes the right choice for you.

The similarities between Botox and fillers

Botox and dermal fillers are minimally invasive, cosmetic injections that restore a more youthful look and enhance your natural beauty.

In addition to being quick and convenient, Botox and fillers appeal to many of our patients because there’s no need for downtime following your beauty treatment. You can go right back to your usual routine after your appointment.

But we do recommend you skip any strenuous physical activity for a day or two to prevent bruising at the injection site.

Though results from Botox and fillers are temporary, repeating your cosmetic injections may prevent new lines and wrinkles from forming.

Similar in many ways, Botox and fillers work differently and address specific types of wrinkles.

Smoothing out dynamic wrinkles with Botox

Facial expressions are a universal way people all over the world share their emotions. We smile when we’re happy and scowl when we’re angry.

Though an effective tool that helps people see how you’re feeling, your facial expressions contribute to the development of the etched-in lines around your eyes and on your forehead.

These lines and creases are called dynamic wrinkles. When you smile or frown, your facial muscles fold the skin. Over time, the repeated expressions and skin folding cause permanent lines and wrinkles.

Botox reduces the appearance of your dynamic wrinkles by temporarily stopping the muscle contractions that cause them. Made from a purified botulinum toxin, Botox blocks nerve signals to the muscles so they relax, inhibiting the lines from forming.

In addition to the very popular Botox injections, we also offer Jeauvea® injections, which contains a highly purified form of botulinum toxin without additives.

We use Botox injections to temporarily smooth out crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles.

Erasing static wrinkles with fillers

Not all wrinkles are the same. The lines and folds you see on your face when your facial muscles aren’t moving are called static wrinkles. These types of wrinkles are the result of volume loss

As you get older, your skin thins and loosens because of the loss of supportive structural proteins and subcutaneous fat. These changes cause your skin to sag and fold, creating the lines and creases known as static wrinkles.

Fillers restore volume loss and smooth out the static wrinkles. We use many types of fillers to meet a wide range of beauty needs, including Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Restylane Lyft™.

We use dermal fillers to treat nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the bottom of your nose to the corner of your mouth) and smoker’s lines around the mouth.

We also use fillers to plump up thin lips and fill in recessed acne scars.

Combining Botox and dermal fillers

Fillers and Botox are great solutions for smoothing out facial lines and creases. The one that’s right for you depends on the type of wrinkles you have.

But if you have dynamic and static wrinkles, you benefit from both cosmetic injections. In fact, getting Botox and fillers at the same time may enhance the longevity of your beauty treatment.
